Hi everyone! Today I want to show you a great way to add some fun and whimsy to a layout…pinwheels. They are a hot trend in paper crafting! You can buy all sorts of styles and sizes that are pre-made, but today I'm want to show you how you can make your own. They are surprisingly easy to make and making them allows you to use colors and sizes of your choice.
To make a pinwheel, cut a piece of patterned paper into a square. The larger the square the larger the finished pinwheel will be. The pinwheels I used on my finished layout were made using an 1 1/2 inch and 2 inch square.
Fold the square in half on the diagonal. Open it up and fold it in half on the other diagonal.
Open your square, then using your scissors, cut from each corner, following the folded line up to a little over 1/4 inch from the middle. Repeat this on all corners.
Once all the cuts are made, place an adhesive dot in the center of the square. Next, fold up every other cut section and adhere it to the adhesive dot.
To complete the pinwheel, embellish the center with a button, brad or other item of your choice.
Here is how I used the pinwheels I made on my layout.
If you try these pinwheels, share your project in our Flickr gallery, I would love to see how you use them.
