The team has come up with some amazing inspiration to kick off National Scrapbooking Day! 

The assignment was to use an old/vintage photo for a layout so let's check out what everyone came up with.

 

Suz said, "I really enjoyed this assignment because I think scrapping with vintage photos challenges me to create with something old (the photo) and to pair it with "something new" (scrap goodies from the shop).  My design was inspired by this "vintage" photo of my two older sisters, my cousin, and myself in the backyard of my grandparents' house on Easter Sunday in 1972.  Hanging out with our Easter baskets and some adorable little snow bunnies, which I am sure my sisters created for the most part (otherwise they wouldn't resemble bunnies at all with toddlers at the construction helm, lol").

Nicole said, "This challenge was so enjoyable, mostly because I got to dig through vintage photos and that snowballed into remembering stories being told by my parents (and others) about their young married life.  This particular photo is of my mom with one of my favorite aunts.  

My aunt is a sweet Southern lady and has quite the array of stories to tell about my parents herself ;)  Her sense of humor mixed with her strong accent always leave me wanting more.  We moved around a lot growing up, so it was always a treat to visit with my aunt and catch up on life.  (If you've ever seen the movie "Elizabethtown", she reminds me of the character played by Paula Deen :)

I've always wanted to scrap this photo and as soon as I heard what the assignment was, I knew exactly what I was going to do :)

Hello!  It's Adrienne here today with a tutorial on how to make a quick and easy Mother's Day gift card holder/mini album! 

Mother's Day is right around the corner and I thought it would be fun to create something a little more interactive than a card this year.  I ended up creating this super cute (and easy!) accordion style mini album with a pocket to hold a gift card or extra photos.  

Step 1:  Gather all of your supplies.  I used a sheet of 12x12 Composition & Color patterned paper, washi tape, Sweet Notes alpha and tag stickers, embellishments, photos sized around 2 inches square, twine, and a small glassine bag.

 

Step 2:  Cut the top strip of journaling cards from the 12x12 Composition & Color patterned paper and score along each card's edge.  (*You could also use a bone folder to crease the edges if you don't have a scoring blade on you paper trimmer.)  You should now have four (attached) journaling cards that are creased "accordion style", like in the photo below...

 

Step 3:  Select a few photos (I chose four) and cut them out at about 2 - 2.5 inches square.

Step 4:  Add photos and embellish to your hearts desire!  Just remember, the bulkier the items are that you use, the harder it will be to fold up the finished product.  I kept my embellishing pretty simple with a few strips of washi, some stickers, and a few drops of spray ink.

 

Step 5:  Flip the album over and attach a small glassine bag to hold a gift card.  Continue embellishing any way you wish or add a tag or extra journaling card for a sentiment if you're not wanting to include a gift card.  I chose to add my sentiment on the blank "smile" card on the front. 

 

  

Step 6:  Embellish the front of the album.  I used a tag, some Jillibean Soup Corrugated Shapes and a sticker for the front of mine.  

And here's how mine turned out...

I also used a piece of twine to tie the entire album together so that it stays closed nicely until it's ready to be opened.  Here's another shot of the finished mini album...

Hello friends!  It's Adrienne here sharing my Project Life spread for the week of April 15-21, or Week 16.  This week's color combo was highly inspired by Nicole's moodboard she created...

Aren't those colors just out-of-this-world inspiring!  

Week 16 was busy, busy, busy!  But that's kind of how this whole year has been for us :)  I took lots of photos this week and actually had a hard time paring down the ones I wanted to use for this spread. 

 

One of the best moments of the week was getting to spend some extra time with my niece while her parents were busy moving into their new home :)  She's so stinkin' cute and into everything!  Love it!!!

 

 We found a wonderful surprise in our bluebird house this week...5 beautiful eggs!  I can't wait until they  hatch! 

 

We also found a nest of baby bunnies and a couple of turtles wandering around our sidewalks...gotta love nature and those adorable springtime creatures :)

 

We did have a couple of days where the temps dropped way back down into the 30s...brrr...but they were back up again by the weekend.  Thank goodness.

 

We spent most of the weekend enjoying the sunshine and spending time together...my hubby turned 40 so it was a very low key, but extended celebration!

 Hi!  My name is Jenifer Walker and I currently live in Maryland, right outside of D.C.  I am an RN, but have chosen to be a stay-at-home-mom to my two lovely children, Marcus and Kaitlyn.  They are, by far, my favorite "project" and they keep me very busy!  I am a proud Navy wife to my wonderful husband, Matt, for 18 years!  Simply put, he makes me laugh even when things seem bad.  

I have been scrapbooking since 1997, the year my first child was born.  Through the years I have tried many crafts/projects, but my favorite is papercrafting.  I do traditional layouts as well as Project Life, mini albums, and cards.  

We asked Jenifer a few questions to get to know more about her creative side:

1.  How would you describe your scrapbooking style?

I have a "why finish now, what you can embellish later" kind of attitude when it comes to my scrapbooking and my style is more on the modern or trendy side.  I often go for the more graphic papers and I love incorporating the "latest thing" into my layouts.  It's rare for me to finish a layout in one sitting.  When I get stuck, I put it aside and come back to it later.  This works for me.  It's pretty normal for me to have several things that I am working on at the same time.  

2.  What's your favorite color combo that you use on your layout?

I don't have one!  I am always trying something new.  I love taking pictures of a shirt or a rug in a store and turning it into a layout.  Target is great for this!  

3.  What's one tool that you use on every project?

Die-cut machines!   I have a Cricut and a Silhouette.  They both are great for different reasons.  I have loved the Cricut for years.  It's easy to use and a no brainer.  Enter Silhouette.  The Silhouette is a creative powerhouse.  If you can think it, you can make it into a cut file.  I am always using the print and cut feature.  

4.  What are some of your favorite scrapbooking trends right now?

Chevron!!!  Chevron paper, wood veneers, die-cuts, washi tape, stamps, stickers.....I die!  I just love them!  Is your layout missing something?  Add chevrons!

5.  What is the best scrap-related product that you have purchased?

See question 3.  Die-cut machines change the way you scrap forever!  They are dynamic tools that remain useful throughout the changing trends of scrapbooking.

I was so inspired by Nicole's moodboard this week that I couldn't resist using all of those fresh colors in my PL spread this week... 

 

 

I used some Basic Grey Candy Buttons to jazz up the woodgrain circle card...I'm so happy that the trees and flowers are starting to bloom!

 

 

 

And the Studio Calico Sundrifter Vellum Frames were the perfect addition and pop of color to my spread this week!

Hello!  I'm here today with a little tutorial involving mists and lovely wood veneers!  Ombre is a hot trend right now and I was inspired to create the effect on this layout...
 
 

In just a few simple steps, you can give your next layout or project this effect, too!  Let's get started...
 

First, you'll want to gather your supplies.  You'll need at least three of your favorite mist/spray ink colors, some wood veneers, the photo(s) you want to include on your layout, and your card stock or patterned paper of choice. I chose my spray ink colors in orange, gold, and pink hues so they would blend together well and have a subtle effect.  
 

Next, you need to decide on the general placement of your photo(s) and the wood veneers.  The photo I used for this layout is sized at 3.5x5 and I placed a piece of patterned paper behind it for an extra layer.  Since the "theme" of my page is about my daughter and I taking a nature walk, I decided to place my wood veneers on and around my photo to look like the flowers and bits were sprinkled on the page.  
 

Now, you'll either want to remove your photo completely from the page or cover it with a piece of scrap card stock (all depending on your misting skills :) so you can start misting.  I did not adhere my wood veneers to my page at this point, although, I did remove the veneers that were on and very close to my photo.  
 

The next step is to start misting! I started with a light color (yellow) and misted in small sections so I wouldn't over-saturate my paper.  
 

Keep misting down the page alternating your colors until all veneer are covered with mist.  For a true ombre effect, start with the lightest color mist at the top and end with the darkest at the bottom.  When you're finished misting set your page aside and let dry.  
 

After I finished misting my page and the wood veneers were dry, I adhered the veneers to my page using small glue dots.  Then I took a small paintbrush, dipped it into the mist bottle, and painted over my veneers to give them more color.  I also painted over the veneers that I removed from my page earlier.  
 

I also added in a few sequins and mist drops for variety.  Now you can finish constructing your page.  Replace your photo and embellish as you wish! 
 

In the shot above, you can see where I added the extra veneers onto my photo.  
 

I also added a few more veneers and bits around my title to help pull the design together.  
 

And there you have it!  I hope you pull out your mists and give this fun technique a try!  And be sure to check out all of the great wood veneers in the shop!

Hello! It's Adrienne here with my Project Life post for Week 13...

 

This week was a bit crazy...it all started out with snow and someone stealing my debit card number :(

 

 

I did, however, get my new dishwasher installed (finally)! And we saw the sun a few times throughout the week :)  We took full advantage by going on a few "nature walks" even though it was super muddy and wet.  Thank goodness for rubber boots!

 

 

I loved adding the Jillibean Soup phrase stickers to my filler cards for some extra color and interest (see photo below).  I also added quite a few Basic Grey candy buttons to help execute my color scheme throughout this week's spread.

I plan on adding an insert of our Easter festivities soon...I have a lot of great photos and it was hard to choose just one!

Lovely Layering Tutorial

Hello, everyone!  It's Adrienne here today with a lovely little layering tutorial for you!  It's no secret that I LOVE layers on my layouts, so I thought I would share a few tips with you so you can try them out for yourself :)  

Let's start with a look at my finished layout and then I'll break down the steps on how I created this below...

 

Ok, first things first...Gather your photos and supplies.  

I chose two photos for this layout and sized them at 2 x 3.  I also used a couple of Maggie Holmes Fabric Frames, a few bits from the mini album supplement pack, and a few pieces of patterned paper.  

 

When I layer, I find it's easier for me to start from the top and work my way back.  I can't visualize it the other way around.  So basically, I take my photos and start layering bits around them before I even break out a piece of 12x12 card stock or patterned paper...this is probably my biggest trick to layering.  I start small and tuck in paper and bits as I see the design unfold.  This also helps me keep the photos as the focal point of my layout.

 

At this point, I still haven't adhered anything down yet.  Sometimes I add a couple of tiny glue dots here and there, but only if I'm 100% sure I like the placement.  I also try to place my glue dots toward the middle of each piece, rather than the outside edge of something. By doing this, I can still tuck bits and pieces around the edges to add more layers if I need to.  

 

I also like to use these foam adhesive dots to add height and "lift" elements up.  They add depth and dimension and help give your layout that layered look.  

 

If you look at where the black arrow is pointing, you can see that I placed my pieces on some patterned paper and I added another paper piece under the left photo.  I usually pull colors that I use on my layouts from my photos and if I don't like the way something looks, I just pull it out and find something else.  

 

In this step, I added another piece of patterned paper to bring in something black, which I'm using as my "pop" color.  I also stamped an ampersand on the tag to the right and added a black clothespin.  All of these elements help add layers and texture.  

 

As you can see above, I added some black letter stickers on top of the tag for my title and I tucked a piece of aqua chevron twill under the black clothespin.  

 

I also added some black "parentheses" by the "love" frame and I placed some Maggie Holmes word stickers on top of a plain white tag for some more layers.  I also added some chevron wood veneers from Studio Calico (which I painted black) and some Basic Grey Candy Buttons to the background paper.

Project Life - Week 12

Hello friends!  It's Adrienne here and I have my Week 12 Project Life spread to share with you today...

I used lots of goodies from Come On Get Crafty's online shop for this spread.  Be sure to "Like" them on Facebook for a chance to win some new Fancy Pants products! 

 

Here's the left side of my spread...

We had a fairly normal week around our house.  The weather, on the other hand, was anything but normal!  We started out with our roads flooded on Monday, enjoyed a spring-like day on Saturday, and watched snow fall all afternoon and evening on Sunday.  All I know is that I'm So.Ready.For.Spring! 

And here's the right side...

Don't you just love that quote filler card?  I cut it out of some Jillibean Soup paper.  It's perfect for Project Life!  I was also really happy that I got to include a screenshot of my Come On Get Crafty CT announcement!  I'm still on cloud 9 about it all! 

I also cut the "spring ?" card out of the Jillibean Soup paper and added a 2.5 x 2.5 photo to it to emphasize our lack of spring-like weather.
