Come On Get Crafty

Hi everyone! I loved the pink and gold color combo that was shared on the Monday Mood Board a couple weeks ago and was inspired to use that for my project today.

My card came together quickly using coordinated papers, tags and flair from the Fancy Pants Trendsetter collection.

To bring gold into the color scheme I altered the "hello" from the Jillibean Soup Wise Words sticker sheet. White stickers can easily be altered by coloring them with a marker or ink pad in the color of your choice.

I used my gold Brilliance mini dauber to color the white sticker. The small size of the ink pad made it easy to do by simply rubbing the tip of the ink pad over the sticker.

Crayon Resist Technique with Mixed Media

 

Hi All! Today I am highlighting a simple and fun technique; crayon resist. This technique is super easy and yet it challenged me to get out of my comfort zone a bit by playing more with mixed media. I was inspired by this blog post from mixed media expert; Julie Fei-Fan Balzer here: Crayon Resist Background.

To begin, grab a white crayon and draw out your design. For my layout, I drew my title, a large heart and a few other doodles. Then I painted over the crayon designs with watercolors. The crayon resists the watercolors leaving this fun effect: 

See? Easy peasy! (*NOTE: I did find it a bit difficult to see the white crayon on the white cardstock, so one might want to lightly sketch out design in pencil first and then erase before adding watercolor).

I decided to outline my crayon drawings with a fine point black marker to make the designs pop a bit more.

Next, I used an exacto knife to cut my Basic Grey chipboard heart in half and also cut a slit through my cardstock for it to "pierce" the heart. 

I added another slit for the other half of the arrow here:

Then I added my photo, embellishents, some machine stitching, stamping, rub-ons and a few all-over punches backed with cardstock. A fun and bright layout that actually came together pretty quickly. I definitely will be trying this technique again! :)

Hello! Today I am here with a layout I made with a product that is geared toward Project Life type albums. There are so many cute products out there these days since Project Life has grown so big this year. If you don't do Project Life or something similiar you might feel a bit left out, but I encourage you to find a way to incorporate those products into your traditional scrapbooking! I used the Alison Kreft Sweet Notes paper on my layout. I just love the look of all of the colors and patterns used together. 

                

There is a perfect spot already made for journaling and multiple options for placing a title and the rest of the spaces are open just to have fun and embellish!

Making the Most of Your Mist-stache (aka: mist stash)

 

 

 

 

 

                             

Hi there everyone! Suz here today to share with you a few tips to get the most out of your "mist stache." (sorry about the pun in the title-I just couldn't resist!) 

I don't know about you, but I have a serious love for mists and in the recent weeks, I have been playing around with them a bit more, trying to stretch the ways that I can use them in my creations. So today I am going to share with you a few projects which show a bit of my creative endeavors using the mists.

 

To start off, I  have found that I really enjoy using the mists as a kind of watercolor; opening up the bottle and dipping a paint brush in.

Here is a birthday card I made for my sweet momma. I simply cut out a Silhouette die cut and used a few Mr. Hueys to paint the roses and their leaves in. Then I added glossy accents over the top to add a little bit more dimension to the die cut and card.

 

 

And a few more cards, the second showing how to achieve a mottled effect by spraying a lighter colored mist first followed up by a darker mist and leaving a small amount of unmisted area.

For this card, I misted two different colors onto the die cut hearts. I tried to leave just a little bit of white remaining for a mottled-like appearance. 

 

Next up, is a Project Life card that I spruced up a bit by painting an ombre (graduated hues)  effect to the heart. I simply added more water to my paintbrush to get the gradient look. I really, really  like this effect and plan to use it more in the future.

 

 

And lastly, I like using the mists over modeling paste which has had images stamped into it-to add a bit of color and texture to a card or layout. This one takes me a bit out of my comfort zone as I usually keep things pretty neat and tidy-but I definitely enjoyed getting a bit messy with this technqiue and have plans for several more creations implementing it in the near future.

Below I used modeling paste along with a Glitz Design rollerdoodle stamp + a Faber Castell gelato and Mr. Huey. I waited several hours to let the modeling paste dry before painting/spraying the mist on, but I don't think it's necessary. The hues might just be a bit darker due to saturation into the paste.

There are many, many more ways to put your mists to creative use!

A few other ways I have used the mists are:

splatters-by allowing the mist to drip off of the spray bottle applicator stem 

spraying mist into the lid and allowing the mist to drop onto paper

spraying mist into the lid, flipping the lid and "stamping" the circular design of the lid onto my layout (basically just let the mist run down the sides of the lid)

spraying mist onto a die cut pattern as a mask -one of my favorite techniques

Hello!  It's Adrienne here today with a tutorial on how to make a quick and easy Mother's Day gift card holder/mini album! 

Mother's Day is right around the corner and I thought it would be fun to create something a little more interactive than a card this year.  I ended up creating this super cute (and easy!) accordion style mini album with a pocket to hold a gift card or extra photos.  

Step 1:  Gather all of your supplies.  I used a sheet of 12x12 Composition & Color patterned paper, washi tape, Sweet Notes alpha and tag stickers, embellishments, photos sized around 2 inches square, twine, and a small glassine bag.

 

Step 2:  Cut the top strip of journaling cards from the 12x12 Composition & Color patterned paper and score along each card's edge.  (*You could also use a bone folder to crease the edges if you don't have a scoring blade on you paper trimmer.)  You should now have four (attached) journaling cards that are creased "accordion style", like in the photo below...

 

Step 3:  Select a few photos (I chose four) and cut them out at about 2 - 2.5 inches square.

Step 4:  Add photos and embellish to your hearts desire!  Just remember, the bulkier the items are that you use, the harder it will be to fold up the finished product.  I kept my embellishing pretty simple with a few strips of washi, some stickers, and a few drops of spray ink.

 

Step 5:  Flip the album over and attach a small glassine bag to hold a gift card.  Continue embellishing any way you wish or add a tag or extra journaling card for a sentiment if you're not wanting to include a gift card.  I chose to add my sentiment on the blank "smile" card on the front. 

 

  

Step 6:  Embellish the front of the album.  I used a tag, some Jillibean Soup Corrugated Shapes and a sticker for the front of mine.  

And here's how mine turned out...

I also used a piece of twine to tie the entire album together so that it stays closed nicely until it's ready to be opened.  Here's another shot of the finished mini album...
